Spaceclaim EULA

Section 3 (c) of the Spaceclaim EULA reads:

Limits With Respect to Earlier Production Versions. In no event will SpaceClaim be obligated to provide support with respect to a production version of the Software more than three (3) months after a subsequent production version of the Software has been released by SpaceClaim. Production versions will be identified by the year following the product name (e.g., "SpaceClaim Professional 2007"). A new production version within the same year will be designated by a "+" appended to the year (e.g., "SpaceClaim Professional 2007+”). SpaceClaim shall be the sole determinant of what constitutes a new production version.

Only 3 months? I thought the fashion nowadays was to only support 2 or 3 versions earlier than the current one.

  • 3 months makes Autodesk's 3 years seem generous. Even Microsoft provides 5-10 years support.

    Perhaps SpaceClaim expects to be bought out rather quickly, and doesn't want to saddle the new owners with "legacy" support costs.

  • With SpaceClaim showing so little respect toward their customers commitment to their product the only smart thing for customers to do is leave the product on SpaceClaims shelves. No sales, no support required simple!

  • Thats the power of the subscription model everyone is on the same release!

    Also here in the UK about 90% of Solidworks users are on product maintenance so it does seem well priced and let's not get into Catia with its reccuring licence charge at about 18% of the primary license charge
