CAD Software Pricing
IMSI Design is now offering TurboCAD for $169.95. This is what their email says:
"We're offering the TurboCAD Deluxe 14 Anniversary Edition to you at a price that has our accountants shaking their heads and our competition frantically waiving white flags."
I am beginning to wonder how much lower CAD software is going to get. At the rate things are going, we will soon be talking double digit prices.
Looks like finally we will end up with two kinds of CAD software: very cheap and very expensive. People in the middle may have to move up or down or disappear.

TurboCAD has been cheaper. During the 1990s, they often sold it for $99 or $49.
For a while, they had a "Corporate Seeding Campaign" giving away one million copies for free. $0.
Selling cheap is something that IMSI/design seems to be unable to stop themselves from doing. I have counselled them in the past to get away from their past, but to no avail.
"...our competition frantically waiving white flags." Um, no. The competition is thrilled that IMSI/design is positioning their product in the cheap-enough-to-try-it-and-throw-it-away category.
When CAD costs $4000 or $6000, then the customer hangs on to it for dear life, and commits to it.
